What is espresso?
Espresso is a brewing method that involves forcing pressurized water through finely ground coffee. This extracts the coffee's most flavorful components and aromatics, resulting in an intense and full-flavored brew. Espresso is the base for all of our lattes and mochas.
How is caffeine removed? Does it affect taste?
We make our Caribou Coffee Natural Decaf™ using our all-natural, chemical-free decaffeination processes. Our methods preserve almost 100% of the coffee's original flavor.
How much caffeine is there in a cup of coffee or a shot of espresso?
• 355 ml. cup of coffee: 230 milligrams of caffeine, on average
Is decaffeinated coffee 100% caffeine free?
A decaffeinated cup of coffee has 97 to 99 percent less caffeine than a caffeinated cup. A 355 ml. cup of decaf generally contains 2 to 10 milligrams of caffeine.
Why don't you sell flavored coffee?
We'd rather add a flavor shot to brewed coffee so you can control the amount and type of flavor you taste. This allows us to create the finest-tasting coffees without masking it with flavors. Our variety of flavor shots, however, gives you many choices to sweeten up the cup.
I like strong coffee. Which varieties are the strongest?
Strength usually refers to the extraction of coffee, or the "thickness" of the brewed beverage. We brew all our coffees to a strength that allows the flavor characteristics to fully shine through. Some people perceive dark roasts (such as French Roast and Fireside Blend) or big-bodied, light-roasted coffees (like Kenya AA) to be "stronger."
Should I keep my coffee in the refrigerator or freezer to keep it fresh?
Neither. Freezers and refrigerators are full of odors that your coffee will absorb - you could end up with chicken-flavored coffee! Refrigeration also causes condensation on the coffee that will cause the flavor to deteriorate rapidly.
Is it okay to microwave coffee to keep it warm?
No. When coffee cools, its chemistry changes. Reheating the coffee will further break down the few aromatics left. Your coffee will taste bad. Keep coffee in a thermos, or simply brew a fresh pot.
What kind of filters should I use?
We recommend either gold or oxygen-bleached filters. Gold filters are reusable and allow more of your coffee's important oils to reach your cup, adding flavor. Most chemically-bleached filters tend to impart a disagreeable "bleachy" flavor to your coffee. Natural, brown filters add a woody, "papery" flavor. Oxygen-bleached paper filters will not taint your coffee's flavor.
